Southeast University has approved the establishment of the Institute of International and Regional Studies, a new research institute dedicated to advancing interdisciplinary country and regional studies and supporting the development of China's “New Liberal Arts” initiative.

The Institute is led by Professor Wang Qilong, Chief Professor at Southeast University and a faculty member of the School of Foreign Languages, who serves as Executive Dean.

The Institute consists of one premier think tank and four specialized research centers: the Center for South Asian and Himalayan Studies, the Center for African Studies, the Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, and the Center for East Asian Studies. It focuses on addressing national strategic priorities and major global and regional developments through interdisciplinary research and policy consultation.

The Institute also aims to contribute to the development of an independent knowledge system for area studies with Chinese characteristics and to support China's global engagement in fields such as infrastructure, digital technology, intelligent manufacturing, standards, and cultural exchange.
