
On the afternoon of December 11, the School of Foreign Languages at Southeast University hosted its signature academic event, “Debate of Discourses,”along with a session of the lecture series “Wenshu Exploring the Essence: Frontiers of Foreign Languages and Literature Research.” The event took place in Conference Room 821 of the school. Upon invitation, Professor Zhang Yi from the School of Foreign Languages at Nanjing University delivered an academic lecture titled “Language Research from the Perspective of Artificial Intelligence,” which attracted a large number of faculty members and students. The lecture was hosted by Professor Liu Guangxiang.
Against the backdrop of the rapid development of artificial intelligence, Professor Zhang Yi systematically outlined the key characteristics of AI in language use and language research through a series of representative case studies. He provided an in-depth analysis of the emerging topics, methodologies, and trends in language research in the era of AI, and offered forward-looking insights on how artificial intelligence can drive paradigm shifts in language research and expand the integration of foreign language teaching and research.
Following the lecture, faculty and students engaged in lively discussions on the impact of AI innovations on current second language writing research, as well as how language databases composed of “low-resource languages” and “high-resource languages” are shaping new forms of digital inequality in AI multilingual practices. The on-site exchange was thorough and the atmosphere was vibrant, fully reflecting the high level of interest among faculty and students in interdisciplinary topics related to artificial intelligence and language research.

This lecture provided valuable insights for our faculty and students to better understand the new directions of language research in the context of artificial intelligence. It also laid a solid foundation for advancing the innovative development and interdisciplinary integration of foreign language studies.
